The Arc was built following the Battle of Austerlitz, and everything about it conveys power and order. Positioned at the heart of Place Charles-de-Gaulle, once known as Place de l’Étoile, it serves as the center from which twelve grand avenues radiate like the points of a star, a masterpiece of urban planning.
Engraved with battle names, adorned with massive sculptures, and measuring 50 meters high, the Arc is visually commanding. But beyond its scale, it is also a place of remembrance.
Beneath its vault burns the Eternal Flame of the Unknown Soldier, lit in 1923 and rekindled each evening — a solemn tribute to fallen soldiers and the enduring importance of peace.
