Paris in October: what to do in the Batignolles in autumn
In October, the Batignolles gently begin to change pace. Mornings feel fresher, the scent of coffee mixes with warm pastries and the first conversations settle onto neighbourhood terraces. At Joli Môme, light moves through the lounge as guests begin to imagine their day in Paris.
There is something special about Paris in October. Trees turn shades of gold, evenings begin a little earlier and days naturally move from autumn walks to exhibitions, from a café stop to an evening at the theatre.
In the Batignolles, in Paris’s 17th arrondissement, there is no need to cross the entire city to enjoy Paris in autumn. Theatres, bookshops, small galleries, markets and local addresses can all be discovered within a few streets of the house.
Here are some of our favourite ways to experience October in the Batignolles.
What to do in Paris in October to enjoy autumn?
Start simply by walking.
In October, Square des Batignolles gradually takes on warmer colours. Its tree-lined paths and peaceful atmosphere offer a quiet pause before returning to the livelier streets of the neighbourhood.
Around it, leave some room for spontaneity. Wander through the market, browse a bookshop, choose a café because you like its terrace or step into a small independent shop you had not planned to visit.
Photography lovers can also catch the Loop Festival of Street Photography, running across several venues in the 17th arrondissement until 11 October, with free exhibitions including locations around the local town hall and Pont Cardinet.
Until 17 October, Bibliothèque Colette Vivier is also hosting a free exhibition devoted to Anna Maria Sibylla Merian, the German artist and naturalist celebrated for her detailed illustrations of plants and insects. It is a lovely indoor option for a cooler or rainy autumn afternoon.
Because deciding what to do in Paris in autumn does not always mean filling every hour. October can also be an invitation to slow down.
Paris in October: our ideas around the Batignolles
As daylight fades a little earlier, Parisian theatres become another way to enjoy the season.
Just a short distance from Joli Môme, Théâtre Hébertot has several performances running throughout October.
Cyril Gely’s Diplomatie runs until 3 January 2027. Set during the dramatic night of August 1944 when the fate of Paris hung in the balance, the play is performed from Tuesday to Saturday at 9pm.
For something more musical, Viva Verdi explores the life of Giuseppe and Giuseppina Verdi through theatre and music. It runs until 6 December, with performances on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7pm and Sundays at 5.30pm.
Walk towards Place de Clichy and Théâtre de l’Œuvre offers even more choice. Toutes les choses géniales opens on 5 October, followed by En attendant Bojangles from 14 October and Michaël Hirsch’s Y’a de la joie ! from 20 October.
Closer still, Bibliothèque des Batignolles is holding a free reading devoted to Georges Perec on 13 October. On 28 October, families can also join a free origami workshop for adults and children aged seven and over, subject to booking.
An exhibition, a play and a neighbourhood walk can therefore easily fill an autumn day without spending hours crossing Paris.
